CarSim 7.1 is ReleasedThe next release of CarSim, version 7.1, is finished and now being shipped to those customers in maintenance. Much of the effort has been spent on adding features to the math models. Two of the more noticeable enhancements are: 1. The models now include the TNO Delft-Tyre Magic Formula tire model (built-in). This world-wide standard is closely integrated within the CarSim math models and offers several new capabilities (for example, asymmetric tires), and works directly with TNO datasets. Of course, all of the existing tire model options in past versions of CarSim are still fully supported, and the tire tester tool has been extended to also work with the new TNO options. 2. The models have a new option for a more detailed brake system, with pedal force input, thermal effects, and other details. Here are some other enhancements: • CarSim 7.1 features added import variables for camber angle, kingpin steering torque, and steer on twist-beam suspensions. Now you can add twist-beam compliance effects from an FEA model. • Trailer hitch performance is improved by adding friction and viscous damping. Add dry friction or a yaw damper to your trailer hitch. • Suspension jounce and rebound bump stops can be specified separately from the springs. You can change spring or bump stop properties independently from each other. • Many improvements in the numerical stability of the low-speed tire and braking dynamics were made. Push the limits of low or zero speed simulation. • Added new VehicleSim (VS) runtime commands, and extended capabilities for extending the models with programming languages such as Visual Basic, MATLAB, and C. It’s now easier to extend CarSim models without third party software. • Full support for 64-bit operation of the math models on Vista has been added. In addition to the math models, upgrades have been made to the GUI, the animator, the plotter, and the documentation. Perhaps the most popular new feature has been the addition of extensive Undo and Redo capability in the GUI for the database. A second popular addition is a new road-building tool for rapidly defining complicated road geometries from segments. Finally, the new features are illustrated with examples, to minimize the time needed to see the improvements and how they can be immediately applied for topics such as simulated sensors and traffic.
