Mechanical Simulation Earns 2012 Award of Appreciation for Exceptional Engineering Support

Ann Arbor, MI - November 27, 2012 - Continental Automotive of Auburn Hills, Michigan presented to Mechanical Simulation Corporation a 2012 Award of Appreciation for Exceptional Engineering Support. The award was granted for Mechanical Simulation’s assistance in developing an interactive driving simulator to demonstrate Continental's Emergency Steering Assist technologies at the 2011 Enhanced Safety Vehicles Conference.

The driving simulator used a BMW 550i sedan, features CarSim RT vehicle dynamics software and LabVIEW RT to read the vehicle’s steering wheel angle and driver controls. Participants at conferences drive the vehicle through a simulated, interactive course that requires them to respond to emergency steering traffic events and experience the safety benefits of Continental’s Emergency Steering Assist feature.

David Agnew, head of Continental's Advanced Engineering for Chassis & Safety North America, stated, "The CarSim real-time simulation environment allowed us to demonstrate a high dynamic emergency driving maneuver inside the Washington DC conference center. We received a lot of positive feedback on the safety technology as well as the simulation concept. The team at Mechanical Simulation was instrumental in helping us execute the overall project."  According to Mechanical Simulation’s Senior Account Manager, Robert McGinnis, “Continental’s hardware-in-the-loop based simulator is an excellent illustration of how engineering quality driving simulators can be used to design and demonstrate emerging ADAS technologies in an effective and safe manner.”
