Mechanical Simulation Corporation Introduces Newest Version of CarSim

ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 23, 2008 – Featuring new animator and usability technologies, enhanced brake systems and the TNO MF-Tyre model, Mechanical Simulation Corporation announces the release of CarSim® 7.1 vehicle dynamics software.

Engineers in design, development, testing and planning activities use CarSim for simulating the dynamic vehicle behavior of cars, light trucks and utility vehicles. CarSim animates simulated tests and can output over 700 computed variables that can be plotted and analyzed.  The CarSim math models describe complete vehicle chassis systems and inputs from the driver, road and aerodynamics.

The new software program includes many updates and improvements in support of major new features introduced in 2007 with CarSim, along with some significant new core technologies and features. According to Michael Sayers, Mechanical Simulation chief technology officer, “The update provides even more options for extending the models and automating complex tests. CarSim 7.1 also features more examples such as traffic scenarios and vehicle radar sensors working with advanced controllers to simulate accident avoidance technologies.”

Significant among the updates to CarSim is the addition of advanced tire models through a partnership with Netherlands-based TNO Automotive. “We’re pleased to be able to use TNO for this part of the program, because they have developed one of the world’s most widely used tire models,” Sayers said. CarSim now has the TNO Delft-Tyre as a highly integrated, built-in option for the math models. Delft-Tyre provides a full range of products and services to measure, characterize and simulate tire behavior.

“This partnership allows CarSim users to work easily with the TNO program,” said Sayers. “CarSim reads the TNO files directly so users with access to TNO data can reproduce the measured tire data with no extra work for importing or converting data.”

CarSim 7.1 is compatible with 32 bit and 64 bit Windows XP and Vista operating systems and features other model improvements, such as a more detailed brake model with power boost dynamics and thermal effects, and enhancements to the steering and suspension systems. Runtime scripting commands have been extended, along with the capability to work with other software through an expanded application program interface (API).
